Hanmi Science, Megazone to Advance Pharma AI Transformation

AI Summary

South Korea’s Hanmi Science, the holding company of Hanmi Group, has entered into a partnership with Megazone to advance AI transformation (AX) across the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. The companies announced the agreement on 31st August 2026, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at Hanmi Group’s headquarters in Seoul’s Songpa District. The agreement focuses on AX-based operational innovation and was signed in the presence of Hanmi Science CEO Kim Jae-kyo, President Lim Jong-hoon, Megazone Cloud Chairman Lee Joo-wan, and Megazone CEO Jang Ji-hwang.

The partnership will bring together Hanmi Science’s pharmaceutical and healthcare industry expertise and Megazone’s AI and cloud technology capabilities. Rather than relying only on generic AI tools, the companies will work on services designed specifically for the operational characteristics and regulatory environment of the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors. The initiative is intended to accelerate digital innovation throughout Hanmi Group and support a broader AI transformation approach across its operations. Megazone currently operates businesses covering AI, cloud, cybersecurity, and digital marketing through 33 domestic and international affiliates, including Megazone Cloud. Its local footholds extend across nine countries, including the United States, Japan, China, and Vietnam.

Three Areas Set for Joint Development

The companies have outlined three main areas for cooperation:

  • These include identifying AX-based operational innovation initiatives
  • Strengthening digital transformation capabilities, and jointly pursuing new AI and digital innovation projects
  • Forming a working-level consultative body to develop specific initiatives and execution plans, with the companies intending to gradually broaden the scope of their cooperation

Hanmi Science has already been working to establish an AI adoption culture throughout Hanmi Group. The company recently launched the “Hanmi AI Boost Program,” covering all affiliates, including Hanmi Pharmaceutical, with the objective of identifying operational innovation use cases. The agreement with Megazone expands that internal effort by bringing in an external specialist firm.

Hanmi Science CEO Kim Jae-kyo said, “Through this agreement, we will expand Hanmi Group’s AX-based operational innovation and build a digital work environment that enables employees to work more efficiently.”

Megazone CEO Jang Ji-hwang said, “We will combine Hanmi Science’s pharmaceutical and healthcare expertise with Megazone’s cloud and AI-based operational innovation capabilities to create business models that generate new value,” adding, “We will build a business model that delivers tangible results by combining industry understanding with AI technology.”

AI Adoption Expands Across Pharma and Bio

AI adoption is expanding across the pharmaceutical and bio industries, covering areas from new drug development and clinical trial design to manufacturing process optimization and sales and marketing efficiency. Major South Korean pharmaceutical companies are likewise moving faster on digital transformation, either by creating in-house AI organizations or by working with external technology firms. Against this backdrop, Hanmi Group’s agreement with Megazone represents a strategic response to the industry’s growing focus on AI transformation and digital innovation.
