APAC Pandemic Readiness – A Workforce Training Efforts Goal

AI Summary

The Ministry of Health and Welfare in South Korea has gone on to announce a collaborative effort with the Asian Development Bank to carry out a joint training programme.

The idea of this programme is to boost vaccine manufacturing capacity in the APAC region. It is well to be noted that the ultimate goal is to address the issue of vaccine disparities, which has become increasingly important in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In February 2022, South Korea was designated as the Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing by the World Health Organization. Since then, the country has been conducting a range of training programmes with the goal of enhancing the skills of biomanufacturing labourers in low- and middle-income countries. The main intent is to train more than 1,500 individuals annually.

ADB is the one that happens to be providing funding for the biomanufacturing workforce programmes in the APAC region. This year, the programme will have a total of 36 participants coming from 7 countries and will be held for a span of 5 weeks in Incheon.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare emphasised its dedication to collaborating closely with the Inter-American Development Bank- IDB, the African Development Bank- AfDB, the WHO, and, of course, the ADB. The partnership looks to educate and grow a skilled global biomanufacturing labour force as part of South Korea’s important role in being a Global Training Hub for Biomanufacturing.
